Because of the explosive nature of the functions at the facility, its proximity to airfields and high security requirements, Woolpert was challenged from the beginning with preparing a concept and development design that met the OANG’s needs and fit within the specific space. Woolpert is providing complete design for the 20-acre complex, consisting of five facilities, that adjoins the airfield used by the 180th Fighter Wing. In planning the facility, special consideration was given to protect as much of the mature oak grove and nearby wetlands as possible. Several of the buildings are also being designed and documented to meet the LEED Silver rating. The plans also incorporate alternative energy sources, such as photovoltaic fields and solar hot water systems, to minimize public power consumption.
